James Klock serves as an Assistant District Attorney and felony supervisor in the Lafayette Parish District Attorney's Office and as an Adjunct Instructor of Business Law at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

James began his career in Lafayette City Court as a contract public defender while growing his private law firm. His career has come around full circle as he now prosecutes state conflict cases in City Court.

James will bring to the bench an even temperament and balanced perspective; having served as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, a civil and criminal lawyer, in federal and state courts, and in public service and private practice as a business owner.

Adjunct instructor of business law at ULL. Holds a master's degree in finance and an economics degree in international trade and finance.

Kiwanis Club of Lafayette board member, active in One Acadiana and The 705. Past leadership with the Louisiana Board of Regents, the Fightinville Neighborhood Association (Townfolk, Inc.), Habitat for Humanity's Young Professionals, the I-49 Connector Group, and Junior League Community Advisory Board.

Rehabilitation Programs
Supports drug, sobriety, mental health, and veterans court programs, built with community partners, so the court can address what's underlying repeat cases and not just the charge in front of it.
Youth Focused
Will avoid scheduling youth matters on days that matter most to students, like the first day of school, graduation, homecoming, and standardized testing. He'll also work toward flexible scheduling, social worker support, and programs that address the roots of juvenile delinquency: poverty, education, and mental health.
Night Court & Accessibility
Court shouldn’t cost a child a school day or a parent a paycheck. Like 5 of 6 municipalities in the parish, Lafayette can offer night court—keeping students in class and parents at work. We’ll also work toward a bus-pass program where your subpoena is your ticket, reducing transportation barriers and saving court time.

Every case starts with a person. Everyone who enters City Court will be heard, treated with dignity, respect, and held to the same standard–whether they have a lawyer or not; no matter who they are, what they’ve done, or where they come from.
Raise the Civil Limit
City Court's civil limit hasn't kept pace with inflation or the cost of living. Supports raising it so more residents can resolve disputes closer to home, faster, & at lower cost.
